Airports Company South Africa Chief Executive Bongani Maseko has been appointed to a two-year term as chair of the world governing board of Airports Council International, the trade representative of the world’s airports. ACI serves 623 members operating 1,940 airports in 176 countries.

• FlySafair has added a new premium fare option, which allows for one checked bag up to 23kgs, an extra bag up to 23kgs, special equipment, priority boarding, pre-selected seat, unlimited flight changes and a refund voucher.

The International Air Transport Association and the African Development Bank have signed a memorandum of understanding to establish a framework for collaboration to boost the aviation sector in Africa. Priority areas will include improving connectivity, safety and aviation infrastructure.

The Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group will open its first Radisson Blu Resort in Maldives in 2019, located on the southern part of the Alifu Dhaalu Atoll. Access is 30 minutes by seaplane or domestic flight from the Maamigili Airport, followed by a 15-minute speedboat ride. The resort will feature 128 villas,  a premium overwater villa category and a dive centre.

The President Hotel in Bantry Bay is providing a complimentary smartphone service to encourage visitors to explore more of Cape Town. 4G unlimited data is provided and users can make and receive international calls and connect to the internet and social media. It doubles as a mobile travel guide.
