• TIR and Amex, Nedbank are to identify and help solve troublesome issues of PCI DSS readiness and requirements relating to IATA accreditation. Submit questions and feedback about the process to sarah@tir.co.za before November 15. A full report will be included in a future TIR.

IATA Director General and CEO Alexandre de Juniac has urged the UK government to find a cost-effective expansion plan for Heathrow Airport. An original estimate of £17-billion for the long-awaited third runway he deemed to be “completely unacceptable. Heathrow is already the most expensive airport in world from which to operate… it is essential that charges do not rise from today’s levels,”  he stressed.

• Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group will be in 30 African countries from next year, with the opening of Radisson Blu Hotel & Apartments Douala in Cameroon.

• Tourvest Inbound is looking for growth opportunities in Ethiopia, Mozambique and Madagascar and plans to have a presence in each of those markets by next year.

• Boeing has secured a R523-billion agreement with China Aviation Suppliers Holding Company for 300 twin- and single-aisle aircraft.

• SANParks Wild Card holders now qualify for a 15 percent saving on accommodation at Tintswalo Atlantic and 10 percent on breakfast, lunch and dinner bookings.

• Avis Rent a Car is introducing voice-controlled reservations using Amazon Echo technology. Customers with Amazon Echo and Echo Dot devices will also be able to review current or past bookings and request e-receipts. The company said research was predicting 30 percent of consumer interactions with technology will be through voice assistance platforms by the end of 2018. A launch date for South Africa has not yet been specified.

• MSC Cruises is working with the creators of Cirque Du Soleil on original shows which will be exclusively available on the cruise line’s four new Meraviglia generation ships, coming into service between this year and 2020.

• Uniworld has brought back its Best Offer Ever promotion, with savings of up to 30 percent on 300 river cruise itineraries operating in 2018. Book before December 31.
