• South African Tourism is encouraging more domestic holidays with a new Sho’t Left campaign and local packages. See www.shotleft.co.za.

• World Leisure Holidays has included Christmas Eve gala dinners in select Mauritius packages for travel December 22 – 29. Five-night packages are from R23,260.

• The Holiday Factory is promoting savings of up to 25 percent for travel to select Radisson Resorts Mauritius from December 20 – 27 (set departure). Packages include flights ex-JNB, return hotel transfers, breakfast and dinner daily.

• InterContinental Hotels & Resorts has strengthened its management teams in the Middle East and Africa. Bastien Blanc was appointed Vice President Operations Middle East and Nicolas Craninx Director, Hotel Performance Support Africa. Matthew Tripolone, currently Head of Development, Australasia, will be Vice President, Development, Middle East and Africa, effective January 1.

• Air France will operate three weekly flights to Catania, starting March 27.

The Fancourt Hotel has been named South Africa’s Best Golf Hotel for 2017 by the World Golf Awards.

Airports Company South Africa named Fundi Sithebe Chief Operating Officer effective December 1.

• Thomas Cook in the UK will close 50 of its retail outlets by the end of March as part of a reprioritisation of its sales focus. 47 percent of the company’s sales were booked in its high-street stores this year but online sales continued to grow a faster pace. The company, however, insisted it was committed to a mix of sales channels.

After 33 years in travel and 12 at the helm of the BidTravel, Allan Lunz will retire at the end of the month. Bidvest Travel Holdings CEO, Lidia Folli said: “The people of all the BidTravel companies are, and will always remain, indebted to him for his contributions to the organisation.”
