FASTJET’s  with the airline’s new domestic Mozambique operation, in partnership with Solenta Aviation, started operations last week.

Flights between Maputo and Nampula are scheduled to operate daily. Beira will also operate daily, with a twice daily service on Sundays. Flights to Tete will operate on a Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.

Chief Executive Officer Nico Bezuidenhout said there was a “very positive business case” for the development (‘fastjet expands into Mozambique’ – TIR October 2017) and “from the leisure side, a country like Mozambique represents value for money as a destination”.

He said fastjet still had eyes on a South Africa operation but would have to comply with ownership and control restrictions.

He revealed: “For the next 18 months, we will keep our focus on our southern Africa expansion, bedding down Mozambique… fastjet is stabilising and our operational and financial [position] is improving. We are likely to become a more credible trade partner to travel agents. Our objective is to make air travel more affordable…”
