RETOSA PRIORITISES PRIVATE SECTOR INVESTMENT TO BOOST REGIONAL TOURISM

Date published 30.10.2017

THE REGIONAL Tourism Organisation of Southern Africa is seeking new, international partnerships and support mechanisms to help grow the SADC region’s share of tourism from two percent of global tourist arrivals and receipts to five percent within 10 years.

The Southern African Development Community has agreed to support the plan.

RETOSA is also seeking approval from SADC leaders for the implementation of Phase II of the Trans-Frontier Conservation Areas Development Strategy to be expanded to include all 18 SADC TFCA’s.

A meeting with SADC tourism, environment and natural resources ministers is to be held in Johannesburg next month.

The organisation is also hoping to activate a tourism coordinating unit to address bottlenecks and tourism policies that hinder investment and the movement of corporate traffic.
