TOURISM to Houston, Galveston and south and southeastern Texas is expected to take years to recover, as operations started in Houston and other parts of the state impacted by Hurricane Harvey as it made landfall last week. The US Department of Homeland Security reported historic levels of devastation, while transport and other services were also affected.

The state department said at the start of the weekend that airports, ports and roads were reopening. Electricity was also being restored.

“We are beginning to see signs of modest recovery… This will be a long recovery and there is much to do,” they said.
