FLIGHT Centre Travel Group will further develop in-house and external training through a new business school, set to open in South Africa in 2019. Courses will include GDS training, a travel and tourism diploma and business qualifications.

Managing Director South Africa, UAE and Namibia Andrew Stark said the group’s Africa business was on an upward climb and expected results for the latest financial year would eclipse the previous record set last year.

Mr. Stark said projections were good for the group’s leisure business and, in particular, its corporate divisions. FCTG’s current business is 60 percent leisure but was around 95 percent in 2010, Mr. Stark said.

The group currently owns around 50 percent of all land product sold and would maintain its blended model of high street agency shops and online resources. “… The overall picture is that we are getting very good growth from all of our brands… We only look at brands that have [a] long-term, scalable future,” he maintained.

• For more on these and other developments at the FCTG, see the September issue of TIR, available online at www.tir.co.za from the 1st of the month.
