THE BOARD of Airline Representatives South Africa has called for a review of security, following last week’s heist at OR Tambo, but also to safeguard foreign visitors. Incidents of foreign tourists being followed from the airport and robbed continue to be reported.

“Our airline members are very concerned about the heist and security in general. We recognise that not one entity is accountable, with several organisations being responsible for security at the airport including the South African Police Service, Immigration, Airports Company South Africa and security companies in general,” said BARSA Chief Executive Officer June Crawford.

“We had already recommended to the Tourism Business Council of South Africa and South African Tourism that a meeting be scheduled with the Acting Chief Police Commissioner to talk about security at OR Tambo International and would encourage and welcome an opportunity to participate in this process.”
